As winter deepens and the nights grow long, Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens awakens with enchantment.
In 2024 we invited our audience to step into “A Midwinter Lights Dream” a spellbinding new chapter in the Leonardslee Lights journey, where art, nature, and imagination entwine beneath the stars.
With a reimagined trail through the Grade I listed woodland realms aglow with colour, music, and mystery. Each scene unfolds like a dream: moonlight rising over still water, trees whispering in light, and the occasional figure appearing in shadow, guiding you gently from wonder to wonder. This was not just a walk but a story you move through.
Bringing together world-class creatives, including Ithaca Studio, Dan Fox, and Third Space, alongside a growing family of local artists, musicians, and makers. Together we craft a performance without walls a show without a stage where every leaf, branch, and beam of light plays a part.
GLITTERING GROVE

Step into a woodland realm alive with rhythm and shimmer. In this enchanted grove, trees pulse with light and sound, responding like living instruments to the night. Created by award-winning sound designer Dan Fox, this immersive installation transforms the forest into a dreamlike soundscape one moment tranquil, the next electric with movement.
SEA OF LIGHT

Lose yourself in waves of colour and sound. A signature piece by the visionary team at Ithaca Studio, the Sea of Light envelops visitors in flowing tides of pixel-mapped light and responsive audio. With each step, the forest floor pulses and flows around you creating a sense of movement and immersion unlike anything else on the trail.
THE KEEPERS OF THE DREAM
by Third Space
Throughout the trail, the performers of Third Space bring an ethereal presence to the night: robed silhouettes, lantern bearers, faeries and otherworldly characters who appear like fragments of a forgotten myth. These friendly faces are here to bring the forest to life and make sure your journey through the lights is filled with laughter, imagination, and just a little mischief.
THE DAMSEL FLIES
by Rubbish Artist
Delicate wings. Reclaimed wonders. Crafted from salvaged materials, these oversized, glowing damsel flies hover above the water and dance among the branches bringing beauty out of the unexpected. A magical collaboration with Rubbish Artist, this installation celebrates the power of transformation and sustainability through art. Even the discarded can take flight.
