Painting Workshops: Places & People
12 July & 19 July | 10:00 – 16:00
We are delighted to welcome Angela Brittain to host her three-part painting workshop ‘Places & People’. During these workshops you will be taught how to draw and gather pictorial references, which will result in the creation of a vibrant painting in the third and final workshop.
These workshops are suitable for all ability levels, all that is required is a sense of fun and the ability to think laterally. Angela will help you produce an imaginary scene using Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens as the backdrop. There are no rights or wrongs, the only thing that is essential is your imagination and playfulness.
During each workshop, a break for lunch will be taken with afternoon tea provided by our Clocktower Café. This includes scones with cream & jam, a sandwich, a slice of cake and tea or coffee. Please email info@Leonardsleegardens.co.uk if you have any allergies or dietary requirements.

What to expect
Firstly, you will be producing initial line sketches of external or internal vistas using fine-line pen and water-based coloured pencils for close-ups of trees, plants and flowers for later reference. Students will need to find images between workshops two and three at home. However, Angela will provide guidance and demonstrations during the workshops to help you with this.
These will then be put together to create an imaginary scene with found images of people, animals and birds. This is not a landscape painting of what you are looking at but a compilation of stimuli and visual impressions you have felt and seen.
The final workshop will take place in the Courtyard Café where your references will be brought together to create a final painting which will be produced in acrylic paint.
